Tai Chi & Qigong

Qigong and Tai Chi are practices I use myself and also teach clients how these practices can help bring balance and alignment not only to their physical bodies, but also their mind, spirit, behaviors, and relationships.

I offer qigong practice groups in person and online, tai chi classes in person, as well qigong healing sessions in person and remotely.

What is Qigong?

"Qi" means energy, and "gong" means "to work" or "to practice". Qigong is simply working with your body's own energy, or "energy work" and is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Anyone- regardless of ability, age, or beliefs - can practice the techniques of Qigong.

When your energy becomes blocked, you become physically or emotionally sick; when the energy blockages are removed, your body's energy flows with ease and you get better faster-it's that simple.

Qigong has been practiced for thousands of years. It has been traditionally very complex and surrounded in mystery. Spring Forest Qigong (SFQ) is a revolutionary and modernized form of Qigong, developed by International Qigong Master Chunyi Lin, after decades of study with some of the most renowned Qigong masters in the world. This is one of the form of Qigong that I have been trained in.

Qigong Movement & Meditation

Qigong is a practice of breathing, focusing your mind, doing very simple body movements, and meditating. It's all very simple, yet very powerful.  I think of it as a moving meditation. Thousands of students have found the practice life-changing.

Qigong Healing

Another way to experience Qigong is with a Qigong healing session.  I offer Qigong healing sessions which involve directing and balancing your energy, or "Qi," to promote healing and well-being. During the session, I use specific techniques, such as intention, chants, and hand movements, to clear energy blockages and restore the natural flow of Qi in the body. This practice works in harmony with your body’s innate ability to heal itself, empowering your natural processes to address physical, emotional, and energetic imbalances. Clients often leave feeling rejuvenated, relaxed, and aligned, with a renewed sense of vitality. Learn more here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there religion involved in SFQ?

Qigong has nothing to do with any religion. It is the study of energy flow in the body and also the study of the relationship between the body and nature. The more one practices Qigong, the more it quiets the mind, helps the energy flow unobstructed through the body, and consequently opens up the spirit or heart energy. When people in the West hear someone say "mind/body/spirit,” they mistakenly think the spirit aspect is tied to a spiritual or religious practice. A better translation is “mind/body/heart,” as everyone has an innate heart energy that is not the emotional heart of the human, but a heart energy that, when open, is capable of unconditional love and sees the goodness in all people. So if you have a religious belief, you have this heart energy, and if you don’t have a religious belief, you still have this heart energy. It is a goal of SFQ to help you open your heart energy so it is easier to practice love, kindness, and forgiveness. This helps develop and purify your overall energy, allowing you to heal much more quickly. You then walk in the world in a much more open-hearted way--a healing presence wherever you go.

If you're new to Qigong, I encourage you to watch this video of Master Lin leading a group at a SFQ conference. It will give you an idea of just how simple and practice is, and that it truly is for anyone.

By joining a Qigong practice group, you will experience a simple, effective system of movements and meditations that can be done anywhere, anytime, and by anyone. No equipment is needed and thousands of practitioners worldwide have reported incredible results in their physical and emotional well-being. All are welcome - no previous Qigong or meditation experience is necessary.

Benefits of Qigong

Qigong Healing

Qigong Healing Sessions

Qigong healing sessions are a powerful way to ignite that internal light inside your body to allow it to heal itself.  It's a way to work your Qi to remove blockages which may be causing physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual discomfort. It's a time to allow your body, mind, and spirit to come back into balance.

These sessions can be done in person or remotely via Zoom.

What you can expect from a session

In person sessions include an initial conversation as to what you'd like to share about what may be going on for you and what you'd like to get out of the session. Some people come to simply relax, while others may be coming to find relief from physical discomfort,  a health concern, or an emotion they want to release. â€‹You can sit or lie down, which ever is most comfortable for you. You are fully clothed during the healing session and there is no physical touch; my hands are kept about 4 - 10 inches away from your body as I move them in certain patterns. â€‹You may experience warming, cooling, or tingling sensations. Everyone is different. You may also experience emotional releases. Depending on what may be going on for you, I may send you away with some Qigong movements you can do at home to continue your healing journey, along with information on any herbs that may be beneficial.

Remote Sessions: Energy knows no bounds and is not limited by space. Remote sessions are just as healing, and I find that I can detect blockages quite easily even being 100s of miles away. These sessions are done via video call. You will find a quite place in your home where you can be undisturbed during your session. We will stay on the video call until the end of the session and I will let you know when it will end. What is nice about remote sessions, is that you can continue to rest or meditate in the comfort of your own home after the healing session. Any recommendations for additional Qigong movements or herbal information will be emailed to you so not to disrupt your time for rest.

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is a slow, graceful exercise that promotes calm mental focus and alignment while building leg strength, endurance and stability. Ideal for increasing stamina, flexibility and coordination. Tai Chi is a form of Qigong, or energy cultivation for healthy body, mind and spirit. You can apply it to everything you do, including how you interact with others.

If you’re a beginner seeking a simplified approach to learning Tai Chi basics, this Yang Style lineage program is designed for you. Tai Chi Fundamentals Adapted (TCFA) Program, simplified from the Original Tai Chi Fundamentals Program, is designed to make tai chi accessible to people of all ages and abilities and features three versions: Optional Side Support with a chair next to you for balance when needed, Walker Support, and Seated. I demonstrate some of the form in the video here.

Movement is taught in a simple-to-complex progression and can be modified to accommodate your needs. Begin by learning the program’s Basic Moves. They help prepare you for doing Tai Chi and benefit posture, coordination, centering and balance. Once you are comfortable with Basic Moves, you will start learning the form. The program includes instruction in the following:

  • Basic Moves: Series of exercises that serve as building blocks for training Tai Chi movement skills and energetics. The Basic Moves benefit posture, coordination and balance and help you become calmer and more focused.

  • TCF Short Form: A flowing Yang Style sequence simplified from the Original Tai Chi Fundamentals Form.

  • Mind/Body Skills Training: Fosters attention and focus, a calm and observant state of mind, awareness of posture and breathing, and physical relaxation.

TCFA Lineage

Tricia Yu, a certified Yang Style Cheng Man Ch’ing Lineage instructor, developed the Original Tai Chi Fundamental Program in 1996, as a simplified prequel to the Yang Style Cheng Man Ch’ing Lineage form, and the Tai Chi Fundamentals® Adapted Program, which includes Optional Side Support, Walker Support and Seated versions. Both can be gateway programs for progressing to the Yang Style Cheng Man Ch’ing Lineage form.
